What NATE Certification is and Why it Matters

November 08, 2016

Calverley Service Experts in Fort Worth always talks about how our technicians are NATE-certified, and while it sounds encouraging, what does it actually mean?

NATE stands for North American Technician Excellence and, according to their website, is the nation’s largest certification organization for HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) and refrigeration technicians. The organization is owned, operated, developed, and supported by the entire HVAC and refrigeration industry but not everyone in the industry is required to be certified through NATE. The certification is optional and technicians can service heating, cooling, ventilation, and refrigeration equipment without being certified by NATE.

It’s important to Calverley Service Experts that our technicians are NATE-certified to ensure we are sending the most qualified and skilled technicians into your home. To make sure experts meet these benchmarks, the NATE-certification tests validate real-world working knowledge of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems for technicians. The tests are knowledge-based assessments that assess the technician’s knowledge of these subjects.

Since Calverley Service Experts focuses on the HVAC side of NATE-certification instead of refrigeration, there are only particular areas pertinent to our technicians. NATE exam candidates may obtain installation and/or service certification in one or more of the talent areas listed below:

  • Air Conditioning
  • Air Distribution
  • Gas Heating
  • Oil Heating
  • Heat Pumps
  • Hydronics Gas (service only)
  • Hydronics Oil (service only)
  • Light Commercial Refrigeration (service only)
