Common Fort Worth AC Problems and Solutions

June 13, 2016

We’ve discussed some of the most common air conditioning problems Fort Worth faces, but now we’re back with some common air conditioning problems that you can help troubleshoot.

Your air conditioner is on but not blowing cool air.

If your AC is running but not really cooling, you could need to have your refrigerant levels inspected. Refrigerant is necessary to make sure the air being released from the system is truly cool and keeps your family comfortable. Low refrigerant is frequently a sign of a leak or that the system wasn’t charged correctly.

A simple way to see if you are low on refrigerant is to find the two copper pipes on your AC system. If the bigger pipe is “sweating” or covered in condensation, touch the pipe to feel if it’s cold. If it feels cold, you are likely good to go and do not need additional refrigerant.

If you’re unsure or the pipe is not producing condensation and is not cold when you place your hand on it, call Calverley Service Experts and we’ll come out and confirm your refrigerant levels and learn why your system is not blowing cool air. Note: only an EPA Certified technician should handle refrigerant for central air conditioning systems, due to the hazards of handling this potentially dangerous chemical.

You air condenser fan isn’t circulating.

There are many reasons your condenser fan may not be circulating. One could be that it merely burned out and you require a replacement. Humidity generally causes more condensation so another problem to look out for is that the water is not draining right or that the drain is hindered. If you can verify these things, you may be able to discover the problem; but, if not, give Calverley Service Experts a call and we can determine what is preventing your condenser fan from turning and review your options to get your AC problem corrected.

Your A/C is not providing adequate air cooling.

The first step is to try decreasing the temperature on your thermostat. It seems absurd but sometimes we tend to overlook the obvious. If that doesn’t get your system working right, check and swap out the air filter. If the air filter is clogged, it could cause serious cooling troubles. Another thing that could result in your lack of cooling is an air conditioner that is not sized accurately, and unfortunately this is a frequent issue when homes are designed. Calverley Service Experts is happy to come out and do an analysis to confirm whether or not the size of your A/C system is causing your issues.

A/C system shuts on and off repeatedly

If your AC is short cycling, or turning on or off constantly, it could mean one of multiple things. One option is that your condenser or evaporator is blocked or dirty and needs to be cleaned. Once the system is cleaned and all blockages moved elsewhere, you may be back to a regular running system. Note that humidity also plays a role so if the home cools to the desired temperatures, but then the humidity causes the house to heat up quickly, it could result in an on-again, off-again AC because it’s having to work vigorously to keep you cool and comfortable.

No matter your problem, whatever usual or unusual A/C problem you run into, Calverley Service Experts is here for you 24/7/365. We are available to you so we can get your AC system cooling and get your home comfortable as soon as possible.
